My gawd where on earth would they put them if one did decide to locate out there? Traffic is bad enough as it is 24/7 and the whole JerryWorld has not even opened up.

SMU, with it's one outright national championship and two shared national championships in football, would beg to differ.

Just a few players who played for SMU:

Doak Walker
Don Meredith
Lamar Hunt (the brains behind the Super Bowl)
Eric Dickerson
Craig James
Jerry LeVias (first African-American player in the Southwest Conference)
Raymond Berry
Kyle Rote

(the list goes on and on)

Why not have it in Austin home of UT and centralized part of Texas, put it next to DKR Memorial Stadium that would be grand. No other school in TX has 4 national champions and heisman trophy winners then UT it would only make sense and everybody knows hook em horns.

The Cotton Bowl is the historic shrine of Texas College Football and the only location for the place.

And neither was South Bend.

Granted great players and decent program, but when people across then nation think college football, Dallas doesn't come up. NFL comboys all the way, but College - Dallas or DFW for that matter really isn't in the forefront or back drop for that matter.

DFW doesn't really have a nationally recognized university either. SMU a fine school, but outside of DFW nothing that people kill to get into.

Is there a reason why South Bend has it? Some kind of historical significance? The college HOF is a pretty small draw and people go to DFW for other reasons. I'd say pass on it.

South Bend has it due to Notre Dame but also because the property was basically given to the National Football Foundation plus the taxpayers of SB; with a already dwindling tax base, are subsidizing the CFHoF at the tune of $600,000/yr.

Maybe not so much now, but SMU and TCU factored heavily into the success of College Football. Two of the greatest awards are named after former DFW area players, Doak Walker Award (top running back) and Davey O'Brien Award (top quarterback). The Cotton Bowl was the National Championship game for many years.

Location, location, location and DFW beats the heck out of South Bend, by population, central location and the number of annual visitors to the area.

I graduated from UT, give a decent amount of change to have the privilege of buying football tickets, attend the Texas-OU game and I still think the HOF doesn't belong here. Yes, TCU and SMU have football history but, still, eh. I also graduated from a Big Ten school so maybe am not quite the state of Texas homer.

SMU doesn't have the football it used to have but its former success is what kept the Cotton Bowl expanding - "The house that Doak built".

Also I would not say that SMU is not a draw as the majority of the student body has for the last 30-40 years been from out of state.
