My husband and I are in our mid to late 20s planning to move to the Dallas area in the next few months. We viewed a couple of lofts at 1900 Elm-fell in love with the place, but some of our friends have advised us that this isn't the best neighborhood. We are really interested in a place like 1900 but if downtown is too dangerous what are some other options? Looking to stay in the price range of $800-1000 in rent.

Where will your work be located? If you're downtown, then Frisco woulbe a horrible commute.

Deep Ellum has its fair share of crime problems. There is also no grocery store in the area.

There are plenty of folks who live downtown. I would not say there is zero crime but I will say there is very little. The worst thing about downtown is dealing with the homeless. They are more pesky than dangerous. Frisco is not where I would want to be unless I was a young couple with kids. Downtown Dallas is not as vibrant as it should be but if I were you I would look into the uptown Knox/Henderson area.

Do you have kids? Are schools and a nice family-oriented area a priority? If so, then Frisco is right for you. It is a very family-oriented area that is very safe. Are you wanting a house or an apartment? There is a ton of really nice, new neighborhoods full of nice houses and families. There is a ton of shopping and restaurants there, so you don't have to go very far. Where will you be working? Downtown Dallas is about a 35 minute commute.

If you don't have kids and want an area with more of a scene(nightlife) and lofts, then I would look closer to downtown.

Where do your friends live who advise against it?
How often are they in that area?

Downtown Dallas has it's own private security outside of the DPD.
Safety

You need to get actual facts to base your decision on.

The commute wouldn't be that bad from Frisco to Downtown as long as you leave the house by 6:30AM

I'm definitely looking into the uptown area. The City area looks way more appealing since we don't have children.

We have friends live in Lewisville, Arlington and Denton and probably only go downtown on weekends. I am asking here to get opinions from people that actually live downtown. Thanks for the Link.
