Hi,

I want to attend college and get a 2 yr degree. I was originally attracted to Radiologists Tech, but I've read that the job market is flooded in that field. The labor stats say that Rad tech jobs are plentiful, so obviously I'm receiving conflicting info. I want to look up other careers, but I can't trust the info thats put out there.

Any suggestions of high demand jobs or 2 yr degrees?

Thanks

I heard that Government jobs in the medical field are going to increase a bunch here soon. Might check into that.

Actually nursing is still a good field but nothing like it was a few years ago, especially the 2 year programs. I know a couple of young people recently graduated with 2 year programs that are having trouble finding jobs. In fact our granddaughter graduated with her BSNursing degree from OU and many of her friends have had problems. She did not.

LVN will basically be doing the same things a care giver does...changing sheets, emptying bed pans, etc. Nursing homes hire LVN's alot. Am I correct?

Wow...geez, I guess even the supposedly recession-proof fields don't have jobs! It seems like everywhere I look, fields that always have shortages, don't have any shortages these days. And competition is in full force.

I'm the HR Director in a nursing & rehab facility.

An LVN is a full-fledged NURSE. The main thing they cannot do that a RN can is push IV narcotics. There is a HUGE difference between an LVN and a Certified Nurse Aide. Yes, we use a lot of LVNs in nursing homes, and some hospitals use them, too.

The BEST money with a 2-year degree is a Physical Therapy Assistant. With the shortage of PTs, the PTAs are picking up the slack! Starting salary is about $35 an hour.

Second to that is a RN program, such as the ones offered at El Centro and Tarrant County College. You can expect around $25-30 hourly, and the RN will also be able to get into nurse management, too.

Radiology and Pharm Tech programs are glutting the market. Medical Assistant is USELESS except for doctor's offices.

Good luck!
