Wow was I surprised when I tried to get some air for my tires yesterday! I came from California a couple months ago where air/water are free at most service stations (its a state law now) and all you had to do was ask the attendant to turn it on.
I tried to get air and the gas station employee treated me like an idiot for even asking about getting air. I didn't believe him at first, he swore that there was no "magic button" to press to make it come on unless I had 50 cents.
Stupid stoner, totally ignored me when I came in at first too, he was busy playing on his laptop.
I KNOW that services stations have a way to turn it on for customers. Anyone know of any chains out here that generally will give you free air? I'm not paying for something i'm breathing for free.

I have not seen any free air at a gas station in years! I think it's ridiculous to have to pay for that. 50 cents isn't that bad....I have seen it as high as $1.00! You can sometimes find free air at a full service station, but those are few and far between these days.

Dunno about free air but I'll bet if it is to be found, it would be at those car washes that give you free vacuums. Buckingham and Shiloh or Preston and Frankford. $3 car wash at P&F btw.

You breathe compressed air--isn't that a handicap having to drag that tank around all the time?

Just drop by any of the tire stores (Discount Tire, NTB/National Tire & Battery, Firestone, etc.) and they will check you tire pressure free of charge as a courtesy.

I suggest you get your own air compressor. They are good for lots of things besides putting air in your car tires.

One of my husband's pet peeves!! but a convenience store mgr told me that they get their rubber air hoses get cut off almost nightly so they really don't want to encourage people to use them or even look for them.

You can get free air and water with an oil change. Otherwise, you just have to keep yer eyes open for a gas station that does have free air and water, then give your business to them. Treat those hoses with respect and put them back in a safe area when done.

I do find it kinda funny that zip headed energy czars tell us to keep our tires properly inflated... while they're riding around in limousines and not paying for the air in those tires.
