We moved to The Colony about 18months ago. Depending on what your price is for a house I can give you a good idea of what you can get.
We have 3 kids two in a small charter school and one at the High School, he attended Lakeview Middle School and other than the size we had no complaints.
I think shopping is better here since we are so close to Willowbend Mall, Ikea tons of shops in Frisco plus they are developing Hwy 121 and it has a new Super Target, 24hr, Dollar Store, Best Buy and some yet to be determined.
We feel very safe here and do get a sense of community. We have friends in Carrollton and other areas who never see their neighbors.
I worked for LISD last year and as far as I know all the schools in TC are LISD

You do realize that FM423 (the main thoroughfare through the heart of The Colony) is about to be bulldozed, right? Traffic's bad, and about to get a lot worse.

I have lived in The Colony for a year. I moved around the corner from my kids, and I live in a Fox & Jacobs house. It has 3 bedrooms of good size and two baths. I feel safe in my neighborhood, it's pretty quiet, and the people are friendly. Also, great care is taken to ensure that renters/owners do not let their properties get run down. I wish we had had some of these regs back in Connecticut! I bought a foreclosure home and got a great deal. There is an elementary school about 1 block away, and everything I need is close at hand. You can get a very nice house in this older neighborhood for less money than the fancier houses. I came from a large, fancy home and moved into this one, and after working on it for a while, I'm very happy with it. This is a nice place to live. I can drive easily to either Frisco (10 mins) for its huge mall or to Lewisville, which I find more citified (not necessariloy a good thing).

Yes Little Elmer that is why I would not suggest anyone live out on Stewart Penninsula but rather The Legends or RIdgepoint if affordable. I avoid Main St. at commute times

Main Street looks horrible at commute times. I've seen it a few times and want to cringe. Thankfully, I get to go the other way to work.

I can't advise you regarding schools, drugs, crime, soccer teams, etc...., but the first time you get caught in that 121 rush hour traffic, you will wish you chose Lewisville.

the colony and lewisville cops are both very good at what they do....this involves traffic enforcement so watch yourself either way.
I live in little elm just north of the colony and the area is quite nice.
what are your travel needs? of course lewisville offers immediate access to 35 but even the colony isnt far from 35 and is even closer to 121, the tollway and preston.
hope this helps somewhat.
