Is any post office better than any other for obtaining a passport? Less crowded, better customer service, etc. I live in North Dallas and will be going on a weekday morning or afternoon. Thanks in advance!

When we got our passports in another state, we had to make an appointment for passport service. You might want to check and see if it's the same here (you reference to crowds made me think that you wanted to avoid standing in line), makes it much easier.

I had a good experience at the North Dallas Government Center -- 10056 Marsh Lane, Ste. 137. The entire process took less than fifteen minutes. They were able to take the picture for me for an additional fee. They are open 7:30 a.m to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. I went in the middle of the day before the lunch rush. You need to bring a check to pay for the passport itself and cash to pay for the photo and the processing fee. The Dallas county clerk's website has all the information about needed documentation and fees.

We tried in Irving, but they only have so many slots. First come, first served. No call in available. When we got there at 1:30, they were done taking people for the day. I was hoping it would be less of a hassle in Plano or Garland or that there would be a Post Office in Dallas that was less trafficked.

the Bedford post office on Harwood Rd--which is not in Dallas area, I know--is quick with passports

there is one worker at the end who does them--can take photos--
and if they see that you need passports they will often call you to head of line...he did it last week when I was mailing a letter I needed to weigh for postage--did not mind
usually very friendly crew...
we had ours made there w/o problem year or so ago...

Just an update on a very old thread, went to the N Dallas GVT center, no line, got right in, but I did have to pay an additional convenience fee. Can't recall the exact amount, $25 maybe? Even still, totally worth it to not having to deal with the post office lines. On a side note, that place was also great for getting my tags. In and out with no hassle.

In my experience the post office passport option is a joke. I called several and each required an appointment at least a week in advance.

I eventually applied for mine at the Dallas county clerk's office in downtown Dallas. No appointment. No line. Took about 5 minutes.

Plano office was pretty quick when I went there. It only took me 15 minutes to get it done.

If you want to drive a little further north, Sherman Tx was very fast. Filling out the application was the longest part in this process.
