Yeah I'm just going with their modem/router combo (I'm assuming similar to what Uverse has)

One box that does everything. I don't feel like researching on what router to buy/spending the money on buying a router haha.

Funny I should see this post today. I'm on TW internet currently. About once every month or two, I'll have a day where my Internet will drop, the modem will lose sync and 5-10 mins later, it'll come back on. It'll drop 5-6 times in that day. I'll open a ticket with them, they'll send out a tech 2-3 days later. The tech will say there's nothing he can do with an intermittent problem. They may or may not swap out my modem, thinking the modem might be flaky. In another month or two, I'll have the same issue and go through the same cycle. I asked to be escelated to a manager today cause their process is clearly broken. After being told there wasn't a manager to talk to - I called AT&T U-Verse. I've had enough of the incompetent TW support.

I really wish we had Verizon FIOS - but we only have Time Warner or AT&T U-Verse in my area of Dallas. So I'll switch from one crappy company to another. We'll see how U-Verse works out. I'm crossing my fingers.

Brian

Uverse is actually awesome... I have to switch from it because my new home doesn't have uverse yet...

You'll loooove uverse. No contract either so theyre constantly trying to please the customer. It's nice.

I just don't like signing this 12 month contract with Time Warner... blah

I have the next plan lower for $19.99, unfortunately after 2 months I got a letter saying it was going up to $24.99, but it's still really cheap for what I get. I've had them for 5 months now and its gone out 3 times, but never for more than a few hours and whenever I call, the automated system says they are working on it.

Yep. We had 8 for $+45. Now we went to 22 for $58. (gamers ). Just inet.

For what it's worth... 8 or 22Mbps... speed doesn't matter for games. It's latency. And your serialization delay for small (game) packets on either is going to be the same, since they are transmitted at the same speed on the wire (and just throttled once they're at the head end). Speed only has the ability to cut down serialization delay and buffering delays if you're causing congestion on a slow link. Hmmm. Hope that makes sense - I do this stuff for a living... so I can ramble on sometimes...

For some reason our problems were solved when we upgraded our inet. Go figure

In fact, I had the same problem with TW but it didn't happen that often.
It used to happen maybe 1-2 times instead of 5-6 times on the same day. The frequency of occurence was "acceptable" to me so I didn't bother to open a ticket. It was already way better than DSL that drops with every incoming or outgoing call. I've only had Uverse for 3 weeks. It has been error free but I haven't had it long enough to make a statement.

Time Warner has been having issues all day today again. I'm using my 3G wireless card to get online now. Cable TV was down earlier - Internet is now down. It's been down about 6 hours now. I can't wait to get my U-Verse installation. Time Warner was bad and has been only getting worse.
