Is it just me, or is this city really identifying the gay community as a group they can really benefit from?

Last week the city of Dayton unanimously approved a bill that allows gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgendered people to seek domestic partnerships. The bill also allows lgbt people that aren't city of Dayton residents to get a dpr through the city.

But this isn't the only news...as the Dayton Gay Pride festival is coming up, the city is promoting it rather than a private non profit.

We also saw a bill pass for the corners of certain blocks downtown to get gay pride themed rainbow flags.

What are your thoughts.

I spoke on behalf of that ordnance, even though I live in Washington Twp. It seemed anti-climatic and there was no opposing speakers.

I think a corner is being turned on the community becoming more accepting. I noticed this during the Laramie @ Sinclair events...a series of things around Sinclair Community Colleges staging of "The Laramie Project".

Most of the activity around this came from ostensibly "straight" businessess and organizations (for example Press coffee shop had the opening reception), and there was a lot of support out in the Oregon when we had our candlelight vigil and walk there...both houses and buisnesses with "Laramie @ Sinclair" signs showing support.

One of the few signs of life in downtown Dayton (other then thugs with no purpose) comes from the gay clubs, so I'm not surprised, and the city could certainly benefit from catering toward the LGBT community.
