2. Mikesell's (Mike-sells, sometimes Mike-Sells) potato chips (although they are not as good as they used to be).

I don't know what else that's important. Anyone care to add?

Mead composition-books. But maybe their manufacture is outsourced now?

Hi-Point pistols (Dayton vicinity).

Once upon a time: Gra-Lab Darkroom Timers - the big, iconic "photography timers" that are a big black square box with phosphorescent hour, minute and second hands.

This is not in Dayton, but Crown Lift trucks is in New Bremen and Troy. They export lift trucks to Europe and Asia alongwith North America.

Hi all--

I dug up some truly ancient unused composition books that probably belong in the 4th grade, and I've pressed them into service as notebooks in graduate school. They all say "Mead Corporation, (c) 1994, Dayton Ohio" on them.

Not sure if Mead still makes anything in Dayton anymore, though.

Speedway's headquarters are in Enon, which I suppose you could call the from the Dayton area.

Duramax diesel's are still made in Moraine, not too far from where the GM assembly plant is (was?).

Hobart in Troy makes the industrial food equipment for restaurants. Although I believe their manufacturing is in Savannah, Ga and elsewhere.

Motoman down at Austin Blvd now, makes industrial robots.

I think we'd find a lot of stuff that is not consumer goods (like the aforementioned Crown lift trucks) that is made and exported. Things like valves, gauges, machinery, components, doohickeys of various sorts.

.

I think the last attempt at Mead doing manufucturing here was the Cycolor plant out off Washington Church Road (Newmark area). This would have been in the 1990s.

Interestingly enough one of Meads first plants is still standing: the older Front Street buidlings was Mead & Nixon paper. They used water power to drive their Fordrinier machines.
