The sooner the Feds pull any money from the city of Dayton for this malarkey, the better. Remember she was trying to open up a community center on the west side for all the 'fugees. Everyone on the west end went ballistic. There's enough poverty, crime, and homelessness in this city without adding thousands of people of unknown origin. She never considered dumping them all in Five Oaks, wonder why. Just like how she threw that tantrum on Channel 2 when the state pulled the plug on her precious speed cameras. It's time that Nan's fiefdom gets reduced as much as humanly possible.

Good for Dayton.
The Welcome Dayton program, started under Gary Leitzell, IMO was by far the smartest thing this city has done in a decade.

Glad to see Dayton is sticking to its roots and continuing to be a great place for immigrants to start their lives in this great nation.

Welcoming LEGAL immigrants is great. Being a sanctuary city is one of the worst things possible.

Default Why?

Dayton will not benefit from sanctuary city status. It just following the trend set forth by larger metros. Dayton does have a population decline problem. If calling yourself a sanctuary city can help the city gain a few thousand illegal immigrants that will not help the help the problem. It will just add more strain to city resources and more uneducated/unskilled labor to the city. This will not spur any economic growth or increase productivity. It will just add numbers to the welfare state. Our govt needs to focus on solving our problems and fostering a productive and prosperous community. Not cater to citizens of Mexico and central America in hopes that their illegal presence here will somehow grow the wealth of our communities.

Dayton is actually not considered a sanctuary city, it is instead a welcoming city. It should also be noted that Dayton has been largely saved by refugees and immigrants--specifically Five Oaks, Old North Dayton and other sections. Also, it is incorrect to assume that immigrants and refugees in the city are from Central America and Mexico; Dayton has the largest population of Rwandans outside of Rwanda, Eritreans, Ghanaians, Ahiska Turks, Congolese and many others.

I was talking about illegal immigrants not legal immigrants. We need to add more skilled workers to the economy. If they come through legally and have marketable skills that contribute to strengthening our cities economy then great. I don't care if their from Ecuador, Ghana or Rwanda. We dont need more uneducated/unskilled/welfare recipients who bring nothing to the table except additional strains on our resources. I don't want to add to Daytons welfare state. That only makes the city less attractive to new business and new residents.

Statistics indicate that undocumented workers put far more into economies than they take out. And if you want to stop this problem, you have to penalize employers that hire them, which no one wants to do because of all of that sweet, sweet cash that undocumented workers put in the pot.

How's is that even possible? If they don't have a SSN, work visa or green card they can't even pay federal or state taxes on income. So they are getting paid under the table tax free. I'm sure employers are capitalizing but it wouldn't be enough to offset lost tax revenue off their income taxes. Most illegals are not working high profit generating jobs instead their working low skill jobs that generate little profit per employee. We are not talking about illegal engineers, doctors, ceos and lawyers. We are talking about service industry workers and landscapers. How are all of these people making everyone so much sweet sweet cash? Most of these illegal immigrant communities are located in slums. They are not helping local property values. A lot of illegals are enjoying welfare benefits and free healthcare at tax payer expense. Please explain how these illegal immigrants are giving so much to our communities. Are the communities they live in gentrifying after they arrive? Turning into middle class or upper middle class neighborhoods since they are bringing in so much more than they take.
