Hello! I am relocating to Dayton in June. I will be living in East Dayton, just south of Washington Park. Anyone from the area have any info on better than "good" Elementary Schools? Pediatricians and dentist for children? Sure would appreciate any advice. Thanks so much.

Dayton Public Schools aren't really the best in education around the area. Though I think there is a decent elementary school or two on that side of Dayton, I don't know their names. My suggestion (if you can afford it) would be to enroll your kids at either Immaculate Conception off Smithville in SE Dayton or at St Helens off of Burkhardt at Woodman in Riverside. From there, they would go to either CJ Catholic or Carrol Catholic High School (CJ has the better rep IMO). I'd especially recommend the catholic high schools down the road over Belmont High School in East Dayton.

As for the doctors and dentists near Washington Park, I can't help you. The ones I know are all in Beavercreek to the East of where you are. If you have a car and don't mind paying $4.00 a gallon gas, there's Dr Whitmer at Beavercreek Family Physicians on North Fairfield and Dr Roddy (my wonderful dentists) near the Fairfield Commons Mall.

I agree with the above poster. Your best bet would be to go with Catholic schools. Otherwise, there are some o.k. elementary schools in the DPS system. They are all rated on the Ohio Department of Education's website.

Do you have to live in "east Dayton" or just somewhere on the east side of Dayton? - could you live in Oakwood? Great school system.

I would also question the location. Are you thinking of moving to East Dayton because it's near a new job? I agree with the other posters and would suggest nearby areas like Oakwood, Kettering, and Beavercreek . . . or the private schools mentioned.

I'm not usually one to automatically criticize failing school systems . . . knowing there are *a lot* of things to judge a school by other than test scores. However, the Dayton Public Schools really are "that bad." Sadly, with the way the Dayton metro area is divided by class (and has been for generations), I don't see the situation reversing itself anytime soon.

Just wondering how you move went and what you school plans are for your children. I agree with all the posters here. You do not want to send you kids to dayton schools if you can help it. I live in Kettering and before that Beavercreek. The nice thing about kettering is they are great schools with a lot more affordable housing than what beavercreek, centerville or oakwood can give. Of course, The schools are better there but just slightly. If you have settled in east dayton already and renting when you decide to buy look in kettering. I wish you well. Give us an update when you can.
