keeping the bugs away and how to avoid motion sickness (Lewes: 2014, taxi)

Less than a month as a Lewes, DE resident and I have learned a few new things!

First, you may notice zip lock plastic sandwich bags half filled with water and a half dozen pennies at open air places to eat or on boats. They are supposed to keep the bugs away (flies, dragonflies, bees etc.) Well, it seems to work. I took an eco tour on the Lewes water taxi yesterday - plenty of dragonflies around, but, they all seemed to say outside of the boat. I understand the pennies in a plastic bag filled with water is often seen at open air places to eat as well. I have no idea why it works.

Speaking of the Lewes water taxi, I had a great time on an eco tour to band young osprey yesterday. I tend to get motion sickness (i.e. taking the ferry from Lewes to Cape May) and someone suggested I try SEA BAND wrist bands. They look like sweat bands for your wrists with a little plastic dot that rests on a pressure point on your wrist to control motion sickness. They worked! About $12 at CVS and they can be used over and over again. If you are prone to motion sickness I recommend you give them a try.
