This may be a stupid question, but here goes. Do people swim in Delaware Bay, say at Kitts Hummock or Bowers Beach? If so, how does it compare to the ocean in Rehoboth Beach? I have never swum in the bay and am think of moving to the Dover area and don't want to drive 45 minutes to Rehoboth.

Yes, they swim there but it's not as popular. There can be many horseshoe crabs. Of course, it's been years since I've been there so things may have changed. It's pretty calm....much calmer than Rehoboth given it's the bay.

One of the funniest things I've seen at Bower Beach:
We were having adult beverages around a bar on JPs on the Wharf's deck a couple of years ago. For those never being there, the bar is a boat with the center hollowed out for the bartenders to work. While enjoying the serenity of the Bay and our beverages, we heard some laughing and splashing, only to view a group of guys, fully dressed, swimming across the narrow canal between South Bowers and North Bowers. They climbed up onto the deck, and casually took their seats at the bar-boat. Pretty funny sight with them dripping wet and being so casual.
