We were chatting with a couple of friends while decorating the clubhouse about bad Christmas memories. Thinking like, not getting a special toy and you were upset, not a death of a loved one for example.

There are two for me.

I was the elder of my sister and I, by 4 years so I got to continue the Santa belief a bit longer than most. But I can vividly recall the day the rouse was up. We had a second floor that was unfinished and not dormered at that point. My sister wanted to play dress up (she was 6) so she went up into the attic to get a mouton coat that belonged to my grandmother. My parents had bought my sister the requested Mousetrap game for Christmas (from Santa), and placed it in a trunk where the mouton was stored. She came downstairs in tears, and told me Santa must have gotten stuck in the chimney and died, so mommy and daddy must have bought this. I of course, did the whole, no sometime his helpers deliver them early blah, blah, blah, but it was over.

The second memory was the tale of a typewriter and a dog. I was in 8th grade and my parents bought me a "portable typewriter" (I am dating myself) as I would need it for high school. It had a pretty powder blue case and all you needed to do was lift the cover off and it sat in a tray of sorts. I had played with it and left it opened under the tree. The one and only time this dog did anything in the house was to the tree and the typewriter. I was very upset when I discovered it. My dad cleaned it up as best he could but it was never the same, but they also didn't miss the opportunity to tell me that I should have put it away properly. That said, as an adult, I guess it probably saved the hard wood floors as it was all in the tray of the typewriter.

Living in PotNets we have our pools and the Bay. My son loved the water and was well tanned. When he was 10 we took our first trip to Jamaica over Christmas. It was December who would have thought about sun tan lotion?? In one day he got what has been the worst sun burn of his life.

Now that is a memory that will stay with him. Ouch.
