My wife and I are in Newark, but are looking to move into a bigger apartment in June. We really like Greenville Place, but have been considering Greenville on 141 aka Woodland as an alternate option.
From the looks of it, the 141/Centre Road area appears to be a decent area. I pass by the complex on my way to work and the complex seems very quiet and well kept. After we read about the death that occurred a few weeks ago, we are having second thoughts about moving there. At this time, there isn't much insight as to what transpired. I've checked several news sources and there are no further leads publicized regarding this case. There are no reports of anyone in the community hearing gunshots. A guy from Bear was found shot to death inside his car with the passenger in critical condition. Furthermore, their hands and feet were tied, and the motor was left running.

What do you make of all of this?

Greenville on 141 is an absurdity of a name, as that area isn't Greenville at all. You'd be just fine at Greenville Place Apartments, which are actually in Greenville and very well located. However, frankly, anyone should be able to tell that the so-called Greenville on 141 is highly sketchy. The complex was gussied up a bit a couple of years ago and given its ridiculous new name, but it doesn't seem to be the sort of place that attracts a very good class of renter. Drugs are rumored to be a problem there, and there's just something about the place that should warn one off.

What can you say about the area on the opposite side on 141, located between Wilmington and Elsmere? I think I read another one of your posts where you said Elsmere is a mixed bag as far as nice and not so nice . Across the road from that Greenville on 141 complex are bungalow style houses which seem conducive to couples like us, who don't have kids and are eventually looking to buy a nice starter home for under $200k. But, would you write this area off as just as sketchy?

No, I'd imagine those single family homes constitute a relatively safe neighborhood. It's that apt complex specifically that seems problematic.
