Del Dot is raising fees on large truck and other vehicles .Since these vehicles use fuel and drive the highways would it not be fairer to raise fuel tax a few cents and raise tolls on Rt 1?? I have no connection with any trucker .I just think those coming and using our roads and sewers should get to help pay for them.

They did raise the weekend toll rates for route 1 last year from $2 to $3. I think the logic behind raising the registration fees on large trucks is based upon the assumption that large trucks cause more damage to roadways than passenger vehicles.

The other big increase is the increase to new residents when they transfer title of a vehicle to Delaware. That goes from 3.75% to 4.25% of the value of the vehicle.

More people in the state, more wear and tear on roads = we all have to pay. Route 1 is like Dover Downs Speedway. Have you noticed all the out-of-state license plates flying by you? I quit using the by-pass for that reason, and found Rt. 13 to be about 10 minutes longer for me, but safer with few speeders....a much calmer ride to Willey's Market south of Odessa.

It's seems to hit locals/natives I talk with harder, as we've never had so many fee increases. Typically, newcomers/transplants are accustomed to paying big time, and it's still cheap living here for them.

Yes the tolls have risen and larger heavy trucks do damage. I would just like to see more money available for road repairs and up grades and I feel fuel taxes and tolls are the fairest way to spread it to all users.
My screen name makes it pretty obvious where I live. During summer weekends we are seeing more and more homes with driveways packed with 4 & 5 cars. These visitors come use our roads and sewers .Many contribute nothing to the Delaware economy.
