Okay: Now we're down to brass tacks. And I will admit to you that I am "Over The Top" regarding my canines(as purebreds are often victims of genetic anomalies), and will be dropping into a few places during my visits for a "casual" inspection

Please share with me your praise and pans (if that's allowed). And if you know of any 24-hr ER services, that would be EXTREMELY helpful! Here's the list I found: https://www.google.com/search?q=best...hrome&ie=UTF-8

Thanks so much!

In the Rehoboth area the Savannah Animal Hospital is a 24 hour emergency facility. The jury is out on them. That said, as I say to humans any Dr. is only as good as your personal experience. I know some people that rave about them and others that do't like them. I do use Rehoboth Animal and have been pleased with them but they are not a 24 hour location.

EDITED: I just looked at you list and you were looking in Kent County. Clearly, Rehoboth is not in Kent County!! I can add that I do know people who used Haven Lake and were pleased.

Thanks, nuts, and i should have specified the location - at least that's where I'm going to BEGIN scouting. We'll see...

OP,

I suggest you also ask each place for a price list for basic services you would use on a regular basis.

I was surprised how much more expensive basic yearly checkups and shots were in southern DE as compared to SE PA.

You might want to consider pet insurance as it might be cost effective when you compare costs for routine yearly care.

I know there's a 24 hour place in Dover, but nothing else about it. I've been to A. Little Veterinary Clinic and have no complaints. They were second choice after the vet in my county with the good reputation told me standing customers could get a wellness visit 8-10 weeks out. A. Little is the doctor's name, just BTW. She gave my cat a good exam and her staff were very nice. Prices - meh.

REALLY??!!
Oh THAT does not bode well. I do have pet insurance - but the "deductible" on purebreds is pretty high.

I find prices for most services here jaw-dropping.

That is why I suggest you ask about routine yearly costs when comparing various places. There does seem to be a huge number of seniors ( at least in southern DE) who have pets and a limited number of vets servicing the area.

And, just like people trying to find doctors who accept new patients in this area, the same can hold true for finding vet services for your pet.

I don't know if this holds true for Kent county, but, it is something you want to check out.

I agree. I only have small animals (rabbit and two guinea pigs), but I have had to take previous rabbits to the vet. Just WOW $$--and the vet I went to was one of the much more reasonable ones.

Hmmmm...this is hands-down the most surprising and dissuasive info I've yet to hear. I've had STELLAR service in my area - by all Penn-educated vets and specialists. NOT LOOKIN' GOOD. Never occurred to me that BOTH cost and availability would be an issue.
