Relocating to Northern Delaware as soon as we sell our home in Virginia. Have no idea even where to begin looking for a new home. (We do have a real estate agent) but want to give her suggestions. I have only been to Delaware one day.

Where are the good neighborhoods with decent schools and close to shopping centers? Are there New Home communites close by. (price between $375,000 and $450,000)? My husband can commute about 30 minutes or less.

And what areas should we avoid?

Moving from Richmond as a recall... great area I hear.

The best neighborhoods near Wilmington would probably be in areas north of the city. Check zip codes 19808 and 19803. Also, if you're going suburban, check out Hockessin, DE... fastest growing area of the state I believe. If he can make the commute, maybe consider living over the border in PA (Kennett Square, Chadd's Ford).

I would avoid almost all other areas of New Castle County, if you're looking for peace and quiet. Lots of pollution here as well: this was just on the news this morning: 6abc.com: Report focuses on cancer clusters in Del. 4/24/08

I live south of Wilmington in Newark. It has some very nice areas, and not so nice areas.North Wilm. along route 202 is nice, and west Wilmington, has nice communities.Lot of crime in Wilmington,New Castle,Route 13 and 40.Get out of the car and talk to people. There are some bad areas. Keats
