I think it is wonderful that the first No-Kill animal sanctuary will open in Sussex County.
This will be a eco-friendly building on 14 acres.
The opening date is June 20th.
The building is 19,000 sq ft. on Shingle Pt. Rd off of Route 9.
It will be eco friendly in that it will have a courtyard to walk pets, it will also collect rain water for useage. There will not be lots of cages......instead pets will be behind glass doors.
They will have 300 to 400 pets there, all looking for good homes.
Safe Haven will also assist with feral cats, helping to feed them in their communities.

This is the article about the pet sanctuary........
I think it is wonderful that someone would work hard, to establish this place for the welfare of our four legged friends.

Summering , this is great news. If you haven't done this already, this should also be posted in the Pets forum. The thread is "Searching for pet rescue organizations" .

I didn't realize there wasn't any in Delaware, I just took for granted that every place had them. I hope they can keep the funding up, everyplace should have at least one no kill shelter.

Oh the place sounds beautiful. There is a special way they will collect the rain water for many uses..........some special roof design.
Can you imagine a nice courtyard to walk the dogs in........
I get very sad at these places, and yet..........this seems to be a "good" thing for pets with no home yet. It sounds warm and wonderful..........helpful and careing.
I guess, yes, this should be posted in pets..........but........it is so important for Sussex Cty DE people to know about.
After June 20th.......everyone looking for a pup.........please head there!!!

Hi Laural.........I may be wrong but it seems to me there are not a whole lot of no kill shelters in the east. My daughter a vegetarian, environemental major and animal lover told me about a shelter like this in nevada. So i'm just assuming there are not a lot of no kill shelters. WE do however have animal shelters but they only keep the pets for so long.
