Whenever I happen to catch the news here in Philly I've been noticing alot more crime stories in DE now.
Is it just because it's scummertime when crime is higher anyway or is this possibly a trend?
When I lived further south I used to 'escape' to DE because it seemed more mellow than obviously Philadelphia and even over in south Jersey, but I can see criminals wanting to escape as well to places to do their business.
It's a shame.

I see you're in Newark...most of what I'm referring to is happening mostly north of there in the Wilmington area right now.

WHAT TYPE of crimes are you referring to? Armed robbery, rapes, assaults, murders, breaking into cars, stealing?

Stuck,

YES, average (I think), YES, YES, YES, YES. Which could correlate with the population increase.

I'm from Wilmington, and Wilmington has always had the same crime problems it has now that I can remember.

However, I have noticed a big increase in suburban crime. Little stories like some guy walking to work in Newark getting stabbed to death, and lots of people getting shot in suburban areas has impressed me. I don't really remember hearing that in the past.

I would say yes, to the original poster. It seems so. It's still very safe, though in NCCo, as long as you stay out of a bad neighborhood, and don't look for trouble.
