anyone suggest a good Delaware bed & breakfast within a couple hours of Philly's western burbs? I'm not looking to spend a billion dollars on it, but something that would be nice for me and the wife on a nice fall weekend?

Little Creek Inn in Little Creek (NE of Dover) and I think the Terry House in Olde New Castle. Both have websites and, while locations are very different (Terry House is in a very small part of town and Little Creek is more woodsy), look very nice. Little Creek Inn had a very nice article in Southern Living magazine several years ago.

Another nice place is called State Street Inn in Dover. It's located near the historic district of Dover among gorgeous victorian homes. Dover, our state capital, is in the middle of the state about an hour plus from Philly, under two hours to Baltimore, and DC, and about 35-40 minutes from the beaches. The Eastern Shore, St Michaels is just over an hour. Our church here in Dover is searching for a new pastor and we invited a pastor and his wife to visit us for the weekend and we chose this Inn to accomodate them. They loved it. The historic district of Dover has brick streets, historic homes and the original town square laid out by William Penn is still a beautiful gathering place. You can stand on the spot where the Constitution was read aloud and we voted to become the first state.

Dude.. the Inn at Montchanin

The Inn at Montchanin Village, Wilmington, Delaware 1-800-COW-BIRD (broken link)

Gorgeous to say the least.

The plus here, is that this is maybe a mile from some of the most beautiful parks and rolling hills you've ever seen, with rich old houses and creeks and streams. Drive down and see it. It's probably at most 30 mins from the main line.

In addition, you are only a few minutes from Winterthur and Longwood Gardens.

I always forget about The Inn at Montchanin. Krazy Kats restaurant always gets the best reviews Always wanted to eat there. That area is also just a few minutes and a beautiful scenic drive from good shopping.
