First off, I do have dental insurance. I visit the dentist every 4-6 months for a cleaning and have a few fillings nothing major. The last time I visited the dentist 5 months ago it was overseas and he had told me that all my fillings are fine. Now, the new dentist here says one of my fillings has a slight decay under it as shown in the x-ray and the filling is too big to replace so it needs to be a porcelain inlay. This will cost $1200 with the insurance covering 50% (so my cost is $600).
My question is this, how can the last dentist say all is fine and then 5 months later it's different?
What can I do to reduce the cost incase I need an inlay...do dentists in smaller towns tend to be less expensive? What is the typical cost of a dental inlay and is it necessary when the filling is about 15% of the tooth.
