I try to go every 6 months, and even then I get chastised for not taking better care of my teeth. While my dental hygiene isn't the best it can possibly be, it is pretty good. No cavities, and the only work I've needed was having my wisdom teeth pulled.

A buddy who has physical issues that make him not want to go for cleanings has the worst breath I've ever smelled. I throw up a little bit when I think about what is in his mouth.

If you keep up with the every 6 months you don't need deep cleaning. otherwise your gums are effected and the nerves can be effected.

She told me that I should come in for a cleaning in four months instead of six months so that she could make sure everything is okay with my gums.

Do you think they will always find something wrong with your teeth and gums no matter how well you take care of your teeth? If you brush, flush and use mouth wash regularly, shouldn't your teeth always be in good shape?
No, they won't always find something wrong with everyone's teeth & gums. However, I would take gingivitis seriously & go every 4 months until the gum inflamation is under control. The condition of our gums can impact our overall health.

Best of luck!

I didn't used to think so, but I now think it is absolutely necessary. If you only intend on going once a year then do your due diligence.

After just having a tooth with a major cavity chip and break off when I was eating food and then having to get a root canal and temporary crown put in I believe in the power of preventative dental care. Just my humble opinion. Cleanings can spot minor issues before they become major.

I think its the way we clean our teeth thats very important.. some people think swishing the brush with loads of toothpaste to freshen the breath is enough... you have to get into the backs of the teeth and along the gum line.. take your time, your teeth are precious so give them the attention they need.... I used to brush mind three to four times a day until I learned that it can harm the enamel.. so I brush twice a day, but brush them well.. change your toothbrush as many times as you can afford and chew small pieces of cheese during the day..

I had a lot of "dental drama" due to a bad car wreck in my teens. I guess one good benefit of that long drawn out event (oral and reconstructive surgery in several stages over about 3 years - and then the REPLACEMENT of much of that work again a few years ago) is that I have a LOT of gratitude for teeth and I am diligent about keeping my oral health and hygiene in top notch shape.

I get my teeth cleaned every 6 months, and no, my dentist doesn't find something wrong every time I go, or even every other time...in fact, it's rare that I have any sort of issue she has to address beyond a simple cleaning.

And I want to keep it that way.
