I had all teeth pulled 3 months ago, went in thinking I would need sedation. After talking to the Dentist, opted to just go with novocaine. Went very quickly and wasn't painful at all, like I had feared. I would discuss it with the Dentist first, depending on your situation.

I've had several dental implants where an IV was used. Propofol was one of the ingredients. I woke up also, he said "we're almost done". I went back to sleep and there was no pain. He agreed it happens. I don't mind the IV but it's so abrupt, like an on/off switch, no drifting off to sleep.
