My dentist does something similar to the DentalVibe, but without using a device to do it. Apparently, there's a brain-nerve signal that can be interrupted simply by vibrating the flesh behind the cheek. So what he does when he's injecting me with novacaine, is he puts his thumb in my mouth against the inside of my cheek, and his fingers on the outside, pulls the cheek out, and shakes it while he injects me with his other hand.

It's a surprising thing, because he never warned me he was going to do it. I was prepared to feel pain, then all of a sudden shake shake shake and no pain at all. I was pretty shocked. He injected and injected and just kept poking and poking and I swear to whatever, I didn't notice any pain whatsoever. Not even the burning sensation while the medication was going into the gum.

So, I'm betting this product (which is used BY the dentist, it's not something a patient can, or would purchase) works great. However, if you have a dentist who uses this manual technique that mine uses, it's pretty unnecessary.
