I am not talking about a Listerine type mouthwash. This is something that is a very soothing type rinse for your gums. It sold for 20.00 and came in a dark brown bottle.
I'll say it again: Rincinol
Its about 12 bucks for a small, dark brown bottle. It's whole purpose is to sooth sores on tongue and mouth and it works great.
You can get it at some Walgreens, but call first. They sometimes keep it behind the counter but its non-prescription.

I did look at Rincinol....and I am sure that is not it. Rincinol, does not mention gums at all....only cankers sores, mouth burns, sores ftom braces ect.

It may not be the exact thing your doctor gave you 20 years ago but I'll bet it will sooth your gums. What is the problem you are trying to remedy? I have geographic tongue AND tongue fissures and it soothes that.
It says on the bottle for mouth and GUM sores and "forms a micro-thin invisible protective layer over sores that prevents liquids and foods from irritating the sensitve nerves and promotes fast healing". You don't need to have sores for it to be soothing and protective. I don't have sores. I think its worth a try.

For minor relief that is not very long lasting, for a bit tongue or canker sore, I have always used Chloraseptic spray (Phenol & Glycerin) which is meant for sore throats. When I was getting chemo from cancer the mouth soreness and pain was so bad that my Oncologist prescribed something called "Magic Mouthwash" which was amazing. It was thick, like a milkshake, and you swished it around for a minute or two then spit it out. It lasted a good two hours of total numbness and is the only way I was able to get to sleep at night. It had to be mixed by a pharmacist and my usual drug store was not able to do it, I had to try 3 before I found one. I looked up the active ingredients, it was Benadryl, Lidocaine, Maalox. I have no idea of the cost since by then I had met my annual maximum drugs out-of-pocket.
