For the last week, we seem to have a "plague of locusts" only grasshoppers on our balcony, 5 stories up. Funny thing is we have no grass. We're in a condo. At least I think they are grasshoppers. Is this usual this time of year? How long do they last? Any way to get rid of them?

This year is forecast to be a heavy year (I haven't seen anything in my garden in Denver proper, and don't do anything to ward them off), nothing to really do ~ they'll die when it gets cold and they run out of food.

You're not the only one noticing them.

From the Denver Post (no explanations, only observations):

Grasshoppers coming too close for comfort

Tempura-battered and quick-fried in hot peanut oil, accompanied by a good Shiraz or Merlot.

Isn't the proliferation of grasshoppers normal this time of year?

In my area of Colorado (Grand Junction) it's been as bad as I've seen in years. Not just Denver!
