I think a lot of it is the higher level of demand for rentals because of the higher levels of people losing their homes.

Here in Boston, the Boston Globe had a front-page story in August regarding how it's a landlord's market again. Yes, due to foreclosures and tighter mortgage criteria.

Student ghetto 1BRs in Boston & Cambridge are $1100-$1300 monthly. Yuppie buildings have 1 BRs from $1800-$2500. We have lots of rich foreign students who can afford it.

As a poster just mentioned above, Denver still has very low prices for apts. I don't believe your economy is as depressed as the rest of the country. And wages must be almost as much as most similar-sized cities?

I can't believe how extended stay hotels in Denver are as low as $699-$799 up to $999 for two months plus on Craigslist vs. $1299-$1599 in the Boston suburbs.

I am seeing $450-$550 studios in Cap Hill all over on Craigslist, Westword, etc...
