Hey. My husband and I a relocating to Denver. He will be commuting to downtown Denver and must be within 30 minutes (when on call which would be evening and weekends). We are looking for an area that is outside of Denver County, maybe foothills, home with 1 acre or more. We are very outdoorsey and love to hike, bike, etc. Any suggestions?

You're going to have a hard time finding that within 30 min. of downtown. Try Arvada.

Not that you can find it or afford it if you can find it, in or around Golden, but it is a nice area and within your required commute time... Against the foothills, lots of open space...worth a look.

Check out the Genesee area of Golden (great area if you can afford 500K +). Otherwise check Morisson off of 285. It's less expensive and a similar commute (starting around 300K).

You'd be hard put to make it downtown from Genessee in 30 min, ditto Morrison.

Are you thinking 30 minutes in normal traffic, or in weather?

I would get a paper map and draw a 15 mile circle around work.

Arvada, Broomfield, Littleton, Lakewood, Brighton....for a start.

If you are up for going east, you might try some areas off of I-70 to the east of downtown Denver. There are some semi-rural areas that would get him within 30 minutes (on a good day) and get you out of the "city." I would look at zillow and zoom in on various areas.

A 30 minute commute makes your requirements more or less impossible unless you have a million or better yet three million to spend.

It has NEVER taken me longer than 35 minutes to drive from Lodo to Evergreen Parkway unless there is an accident or snowstorm. As far as Morrison, I lived in Indian Hills up 285 above Morrison and could leave my house (on a mountain dirt road no less) and be in Lodo in 30 minutes leaving at 5 p.m. Maybe you drive slow.
