]Asheville, NC or Denver, CO? I am more familiar with Denver but I actually already reside in Asheville. I am seriously torn so I thought maybe others on here who are familiar with both areas could lend me their opinion. The schools are generally better in Asheville. The pay is a little higher in Denver. Cost of living is about the same. My wife would make a lot more in Denver. But my concern is Asheville has a lot around it. I could write pros and cons like this all day. Just wondering about others thoughts. Thanks!

I hate to be the "apples and oranges" guy, but it really is.

Mind you, I've only visited Asheville, so my view may not be totally accurate.

Do you want a city, or a large town? because that, to me, is the biggest difference. They're both nice areas, and wouldn't question any of my friends saying "Hooray, I'm going to move to Asheville," because it seems like a nice place (albiet a little too "crunchy" and touristy for me).

How do you deal with humidity vs dry climate? that would be the next one.

I personally didn't get to meet too many people from Asheville, but people in CO haven't been an issue here, so I would question any characterization that people in one are "better" (as in more friendly) than another place.

The size of the cities aside, you made some allusions to proximity with reference to Ashville. If being near other towns of any considerable size is important to you, the east coast is a better fit. Denver is fantastic, but it is in a bit of a vacumn.

Maybe you would like to be closer to Boulder? I have been to Asheville and being a liberal, vegetarian, yoga hippie type it appealed to me somewhat... but Denver just doesn't feel similiar at all. Denver reminds me of my hometown of Long Island, NY... lots of sprawl, strip malls, chains, and people very into their clothes. Mind you, I live in the springs and haven't seen all of Denver--but Asheville it certainly is not

Asheville has a fantastic climate. Denver offers proximity to fantastic mountains.

I have lived in both NC and Colorado. If given the choice of the two cities, I would personally take Asheville. Especially if I was already there.
