Saw it coming for years, and surprised it took so long, but it is official now: Saks Fifth Avenue is closing its doors at the Cherry Creek Shopping Center. The 87,000 square-foot store will close March 19.

I'm pretty dialed into the local economy. Everybody that depends on consumers....is barely hanging on it seems.

This will affect the entire shopping complex.

I feel bad for the people who work there, but the store always seems dead when I walk by, so I kind of wonder if the departure of Saks will make much of a difference in mall traffic. I'm guessing it won't.

I bought a pair of organic cotton boxer briefs there for $8 a few years ago because I happened to walk through and see them on sale. It was kind of funny because the person in front of me in line paid $1200 for a few shirts and there I was spending a grand total of $8 plus sales tax.

Should be interesting to see what replaces Saks. I think it will probably be two or three midsize tenants.

I don't know anyone who shopped there. I am more upset about the Betsey Johnson store closing in Cherry Creek.

Yep, the prices there were just way out of line. Been there only a few times to show around some folks the area and to "shock" them with the prices. We don't have Paris Hilton shoppers here (or very few) to keep such a place open.

Is Neiman Marcus (also known as Needless Markup) still there?

I always loved that mall; it had a nice mix of stores.
But I sure never shopped much in Saks or Neiman.

Wow, really? I sure hope that Denver will still keep its upscale character. There are really only 3 high end fashion areas in the 4 corners; Scottsdale, Aspen, and Denver.
