Hey all,

We're looking for info on Morrison. We've been looking around Louisville, Superior and Golden, but there's a new subdivision being built near 470/275. I'm dubious about the location, since we haven't looked at the area before, whereas we've spent considerable time in and surrounding Boulder.

Thoughts? How does the area compare to Louisville or Golden? I've read on some school sites that Red Rocks elementary is great, but the others in the area seem more questionable. Another concern is to be no further from the mountains than Boulder is (access to ski towns).

Thoughts? Thanks.

Well, as far as ski access, it is 60 miles to Keystone from Morrison , and 77 from Boulder. I just used that ski resort as a quick reference.
Morrison is so great, I can't imagine the schools being anything but great (but I don't know)...

It kind of depends which part of Morrison you are referring to. Old Morrison is the quaint little town behind the hogback in the mountains. The town has also annexed areas on eastern side of the hogback that are your basic 1980s suburban style homes. Some neighborhoods have been kept up better than others. Finally, Morrison is also used as a mailing address for some of the areas nearby in unincorporated Jefferson county.

Everything east of the hogback (the city side of the mountains) is typical suburban areas of varying ages ranging from 30 years old to new. Some of the neighborhoods in that area are actually in western Lakewood and are very nice. In either event, the schools are all part of Jefferson county schools.

You might also want to look south into the 80123 zip code. In this area you will find Ken Caryl (about 4 miles south on C470) which is a master planned community with excellent schools (still in Jeffco). The entire area has great mountain access, wide open spaces, and excellent access to I-70 and the ski area.

I actually went to Red Rocks Elementary (I'm now in college). It is a great little school, amazing educators and very small. Unfortunately, it's on the chopping block due to budget cuts -- it may or may not remain open. That being said, this area is beautiful. I'll second what the other poster said about Ken Caryl, though it can get a bit expensive, whereas Golden is a little too empty for my taste. All around, these areas are very safe and well-kept. Perfect for a family.

Are you talking about Solterra?

I loved living in Morrison, unincorporated JEFFCO. The view, the area, the people, the mountains, a great place to raise a family!
