Hi all,

I have a new job in Aurora. I am moving there soon. The place I will work for is on the Airport Blvd and close to Tollgate Overlook. I want to live around that area. I heard the NE Aurora is kinda "rough". Is it a good place to live? Is it safe for kids?

Thanks a lot!!

Consensus is that north Aurora near Denver city proper are a bit sketchy but the southern parts along the toll road are very nice.

The area you're looking at is right near Buckley Air Force Base. It's not a bad area, but if I were you I'd do your own research on the schools and determine if the Aurora Public Schools local elem/middle/high schools are acceptable to you or not. The Cherry Creek school district boundaries (which is considered by most to be superior to APS) begin just 4 miles south of there, from Hampden south. I'm biased of course since I'm a product of CCSD K-12. Are you looking at buying or renting? House or apartment?

Yes, I'd listen to these guys. I also was on the CCSD attendance list (well through HS anyway), and their schools are pretty tough to beat. The area you're looking at isn't really rough or particularly unsafe, but it becomes nicer the further south you go and speaking for myself, I would try to find something south of Hampden as VegasPilgram mentioned. There is also some nice, newer housing on the opposite side of Buckley AFB that looks pretty attractive and is fairly inexpensive which might be worth a look, although the drawback with those communities is that you'd be pretty far out from everything except your job.

thanks a lot. I am going to rent a house. I am actually going to work in a public school in that area. I think I will try to find one either close that area or south.

I grew up in Aurora in that area. I moved in 2003 and now live in the Atlanta, GA area. I'm not sure if things are better or worse there now but I miss Aurora and I am so glad I grew up there. People are much more tolerant of diversity there. I'm not sure where you are moving from but moving from there to the south was a huge change and I miss Aurora/Denver. Anyway, if I were to move back with my 2 young kids, I would probably want to live a little further south. The area you are speaking of I would not consider BAD but the middle and high school (Hinkley and East middle) are not impressive to me. I went to those schools and turned out fine but I want better for my kids like most parents. So I would just move further south. I definitely wouldn't move to North Aurora west of Chambers RD. I don't know what you are accustom to but I would rather not live in that area with my kids. I would actually rather not live in central Aurora either with my kids either, but again it's not what I would consider BAD. It's just the further south you go the nicer the area is.

Thanks a lot. I am actually looking for a place around E mississippi and E Louisiana. I don't have a kid yet but I will. So I guess it will be ok to live there for now? Thanks a lot, it really helps.

Those two roads are generally in fine areas across the city.
