Hi Everyone!

Over the last 3 or so years we've had the chance to re-located a few times but never ended up doing it - However this time we really are moving & it's to an area that I have little to no knowledge about. I've lived mostly in Arizona, Utah & Ireland and really my only experience with Colorado was for about an hour between flights at the Denver airport.

My husbands work is located in Westminster so we'd like to live fairly close to his office. I'm thinking a 10 to 20 mile radius. We have 6 soon to be 7 children so good neighborhoods, good schools is a big thing for us. We are looking to rent first & then buy once we've been there awhile & we know the place better.

My questions for now are:

1) Can you give me some zip codes/city names that are good for family living? Even some school names would be great. We have elementary & middle school aged children at the moment.

2) Any online websites that do rentals for that area, so we can browse & start getting a price & size range of what's available.

3) What is the atmosphere like in this area of Colorado? Are people generally friendly? I know we'll probably get some strange looks with all our kids & no were not overly religious lol

Any help/info/insight would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys

Start looking in Westminster.

If you do a search here in the Colorado forum using the word Westminster as the key word, you'll find earlier threads that have talked about Westminster.

Westminster is a very large, sprawling suburban area-from older areas to the south, to good established neighborhoods and much newer areas to the north. There is no need to live many miles from where your husband works--you may be able to find a good area down the road. It would be helpful to indicate the location.

Thanks you guys. I'm not sure where exactly his office is in Westminster so I will need to find out - I'm just trying to get an understanding of the area & admit I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all I think I'll go do some searches on here (and probably google too), thank you for suggesting that.

Try this link for Westminster area schools: Schools - City of Westminster, Colorado (http://www.ci.westminster.co.us/83.htm - broken link) I guess you'll have to decide on an area to live in first to see which school district you'd go to. I have experience with a lot of these schools. Many of them are brand new buildings with state of the art technology in the classrooms. There is a lot of controversy going on these days with all the budget cuts though, so do your homework. Dist 50 just got a HUGE grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation, so they have the advantage now and for many years to come. Dist 12 had so much potential just a few short yrs ago. Now they are hurting bad. Those two mentioned are Adams county schools. Jefferson county is also going through a lot of difficult changes too. So just from personal experience, I'd stick to the Adams county schools if possible. But by all means, do your research to see what best fits your family.

And yes, Westminster people in general are nice. IMO, they are very down to earth. Hard working, friendly, laid back. Not very chit-chatty though, if you get my drift. Let your neighbors get to know you on their terms. They'll warm up to you eventually. Unless they are also from out of town. Then they'll be at your doorstep every other day talking your ear off about the other neighbors and borrowing things. LOL!
