Schools that encourage arts, not just sports. I am looking at the public schools. Does Colorado have a 'lottery' to be able to get your children into the magnet/charter schools like Texas?

Thank you for the info.
Well, the purpose of the lottery is to give everyone a fair chance. If there were room for everyone who applied to a particular school, there'd be no need for a lottery. I believe districts are required to have a lottery, but each district can set their own preferences, and they can change them from year to year. Here is Boulder Valley's lottery system:

ToastyReward, yes our search is very similar! My husband and I just visited Colorado and also love the Timbers (and the Pinery), but am concerned about the drive to conveniences. We really like Lone Tree, parts of Centennial and a couple of neighborhoods in Highlands Ranch that have homes a little more spread out than other parts of HR. Hubby also likes Greenwood Village. We drove around for 3 days looking at neighborhoods and spent an entire day w/ a realtor to show us around and look at homes as well. Our big hold up (as is for many) is to sell or lease our home here in Arlington. Our daughter just started second grade this week as well. We plan on moving by next spring or summer. We also have a 4 (son) and 7 (daughter) year old. Our realtor sends us emails daily on the houses for sale so that we can decide if we can/should move sooner. I've noticed that the houses do not stay on the market long in Colorado! We ate at LODO in Highlands Ranch and it was really good, great scenery! I loved seeing so many people outside being active! Love the trials, greenbelts and being able to see the mountains! Big plus, is that it is not in the triple digits there...so tired of Texas weather.

What do you think about the drive from The Timbers and The Pinery to get to grocery stores/school/etc?

Would like your feed back as well.

I live in Pradera and don't think the drive to school/grocery/stores etc is a big deal at all. It's 3 miles at the most to any of those locations. If you are talking about going to Park Meadows for shopping or somewhere like that, more like 20. Walmart/Target/Home Depot about five miles tops. Costco 7 miles. All very convenient. Cannot speak for commuting to downtown or Tech Center as we are both home based.
