Cherry Hills is not in Denver. Cherry Hills is an upscale higher income village with big estates, south of Denver. Cherry Creek is a neighborhood of Denver and is also considered upscale for a city neighborhood.

The neighborhoods of Denver are defined in this official statistical map:

http://www.denvergov.org/denvermaps/...ghborhoods.pdf

There are some sub-neighborhoods that are recognized that are more aligned to a neighborhood association or have historical significance that are not on that map: DenverMaps Report

I absolutely agree that living in Denver, as a senior is a great idea. Denver is a safe, vibrant city with many neighborhoods that will fit your needs. Denver is not like many cities that are dying and losing population. The population is increasing with many the new creative class, newer immigrants and people returning to the the amenities of the City. Many neighborhoods are in big transition with rebuilding, renewing and gentrification. You will have the best options in public transit and access to healthcare--the most important issues of seniors.

The neighborhood would depend on your budget and desires. Denver is not a totally dense city and has many neighborhoods that are similar to suburban areas. It has also the real dense urban neighborhoods that define a city. The city offers housing for all economic classes and many neighborhoods are mixed economically. Denver does not have the strictly defined ethnic neighborhoods but does have ethnic enclaves. Denver does not have and never had the severe decayed neighborhoods which many have defined as ghettos. I grew up in the east, New York, and you will neve find these similar decayed areas in Denver.

Just as Denver is increasing becoming attractive and renewing the neighborhoods, the first ring suburbs are also being carried along to a better future. It is not like many eastern cities that are collapsing are seeing the first ring suburbs also following suite.

You need to define your needs and what is your budget then you can decide what areas of Denver is best but I am very much in favor of living in Denver. If I move again, I would like to move within Denver.

I now live close to the well desired areas of North Denver, which includes the "in" neighborhoods of Berkeley and West Highland, Highland, Regis and only six miles from Union Station that Denver is now part of my stomping grounds. A rail station is being built within 1/3 of a mile of my home, so I will have easy quick access to Downtown. With all this, I may never move.

Sorry, I meant Cherry Creek. Thank you, LiveContent. This is SO much information and all of it good. If I come to visit -- either in October or next May -- can I take you out for lunch? I'm serious.

I am getting close (thank goodness) to retiring, and I'm seriously considering buying a house in Baker. It seems to offer what I want (public transport, restaurants, proximity to downtown, urban, diverse, affordable).

I like Baker. It is one the neighborhoods that I like to take a nice leisurely stroll. Also, the City has done great work in improving the look and feel of Broadway with the traffic medium, the wider sidewalks and the new trees.
