so i am in need of help or some advice on what i can do if anyone can help it would be much apprecaited. so here is my story moved in with co worker to help him with the bills and mainly because the other person on the lease moved out befor the lease was over i was never on the lease whats so ever. when i moved in my roommate asked if he could barrow some money and he would pay me back asap. so for me being the kind person i am i let him barrow money and i made sure i kept recipts that he signd and would pay me back on this date and such and such. he made one payment 1 month befor we moved out. now he is saying he will not pay me the rest of the amount that he ows me so im trying to figure out if i can take him to court for this amount that he owes me which is $450. now the reason i brought up me never being on the lease is he is trying to accuse me of leaving stuff at the aprtment and him getting charged and saying we are even. which is not true because i have witnesses that helped me move my stuff out and im affraide if he brings this to court he will be blameing me. so also he does not have a job now and he lives with his parents again so what is the likly hood of me getting the money he owes me back?

Yes kind of hard to read, but it took me 30 more seconds to understand it and not be a grammar cop

I moved in with my co-worker to help him with the bills. But also because his other roommate who is on the lease(?) moved out early.
When I moved in my roommate asked if he could borrow some money and he would pay me back asap. So I lent it to him and I made sure I kept receipts. I also had him sign a promissory note. He has made one payment, we have sinced moved out of the apartment.
Now he is saying he will not pay me the rest of the amount that he owes me, so I am trying to figure out if I can take him to court for the balance $450.
Since I was never on the lease he is claiming I left some of my things in the apartment which he claims he was charged for and is using that as an excuse not to pay me what he owes me.
The deadbeat has no job and has moved back in with his parents, can I still sue him and get my money back?

Ok, yes you can sue him. You have the receipts and the promissory note, those are both in your favor to start. You have witnesses, nother plus if one or more can show up in court.

Did you take pictures of the place when you moved out?

You can contact the apartment complex and tell them you where living there, and the man on the lease is trying to claim he is being charged, they may or may not give you info. I am sure they have the exact charges and pictures of anything left behind, damaged, etc. Which you can try to get for court.

You have a good chance based on what I read, and if you win your court costs will also be paid by your roommate. Collecting however may be another matter.
