The treatments center is in the highlands section...I hear that that neighborhood itself can be rough at night...

We traveled there in our RV a few years ago and I found it was dismal compared to the many other cities we visited. The outlying areas were largely industrial, or suburbs -- and not all that nice, either. We captured the nice parts in our webpage for that portion of the trip. Overall, we would not go back.

We much preferred Golden and its surrounding areas, and loved Boulder. Salida was another favorite.

That is a great area -- and stories about it being "rough at night" have to be at least 10 years old.

I would find Denver dismal (and annoying and frustrating) too if I was navigating it in an RV.

There are unsavory areas in any big city, but Denver is pretty safe over all. The airport is a good long drive to the Highlands area and pretty far even from the city. It's pretty isolated and you'll be bored to tears if you stay in a hotel near it. There are tons of awesome hotels downtown within walking distance of great restaurants, shopping, museums, etc. I'd recommend staying downtown if you can.

You're thinking of Highlands Ranch. The OP is talking about the Highlands neighborhood, just over west of I-25 adjancent the CBD.

It's perfectly safe, and one of the nicest parts of the downtown ring with easy access to Platte Park, Riverfront Park, two trails, and tons of good local restaurants, pubs and coffee shops.

Try dinner at Vita. Just ate there during restaurant week and was impressed. Great views of the skyline too.

If the OP is actually talking about Highlands Ranch (12 miles due south of Denver) then yes that area is suburbia, but easy access to southwest recreation (Roxborough, etc) and an easy drive or light rail ride into downtown.

You can stay either downtown or try the Denver TEch center area.

Personally I don't like any of the downtown Denver hotels (though never stayed there). If you'd rather stay in a more suburban locale, there are a number of nice hotels in western Lakewood/ Golden right near the foothills where you could be close to some adventures. Also, the greater Denver Tech Center area (SE Denver/ Greenwood Village/ Centennial/ Lone Tree) has a number of really nice, clean modern hotels (mostly catering to business travelers). In Broomfield/Westminster (halfway between Denver and Boulder) there are a number of nice hotels, including the Omni @ Interlocken resort. The places near DIA are in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do and nothing good to eat. No reason to stay there unless if it's for a one night layover. There are a number of old hotels near the former Stapleton airport-- I'd stay away from those too.

Are you sure the treatment facility is in the Highlands neighborhood of Denver (just NW of downtown Denver)-- and not Highlands Ranch (south suburbs)? I'm not aware of any medical facilities in Highlands (doesn't mean they don't exist of course). May want to double check that if you aren't totally sure.
