We just found out we may be moving to the denver/aurora area sometime this spring/summer with the military. Details are still yet to come so I'm just doing a little data gathering ahead of time.

What is your average rate for utilities for say a 1500-2k sq foot house (likely closer to the 1500 range though)? From what i can see, the average rental rate for a 1500 sq foot house is going to run us 1400 a month or so. (+/- 200)

I lived in Nebraska for 26 years before this, so cold weather is a welcome change of pace from this hot florida weather.

(on a side note, i see you're a "nerd" from your status... Is there a huge tabletop gaming community there in denver perhaps?)

$200? Running a grow room?

We're all electric, in about 1,000 sq ft. $43 last month. We're in a high rise condo, so that helps, but wow, didn't think it helped that much.

Do you guys use mostly electric for heat then? I'm from nebraska and most people used gas heat and ranges there.

Our house is somewhere in that range in size. I don't think I've ever paid more than $175.00 in any given month for electric and gas (we have gas heat and a gas stove) and that would have been at the height of the summer. Those months when neither the air nor heat are running, it costs less than $100.00 per.

Water usually runs about $75.00 per month (Aurora water.)

Holy crap 75 a month for water? yeesh. Hope that's some genuine spring water.

I thought it was bad that i paid 30 here in Florida (15 of that being "customer charge" aka providing customer service fee).

But, it looks like it will be semi-comparable to what i pay here. Currently we have a 2k sq foot house, in winter we pay about 100 a month for all utilities but summer it gets to 200-225, so a good average of ~165 a month over a year.

edit to add: oh, yes, i did forget we do have water savings since we use septic instead of sewer, now it makes sense.

Currently my average break down is ~30 for water
~25 for gas (hot water)
50 for electric in winter and up to 175 for electric in summer. (keeping AC on at a steady 76 year round though).

There is simply a lot more water in Florida than in CO, although I know some areas have issues even there.

If you think $75 a month for water is bad, in some areas here, to build a house, the fee to hook up to the water system is $25,000.
