I hope it's temporary. Between that and the construction mess in Cherry Creek I'm having a hard time finding a good route to uptown. By the time they start work on the old hospital complex maybe we'll be flying jetpacks.

TJ's has a lot of value-conscious shoppers, but they aren't looking for cheap junk, they look for the boutique mom and pop producers of unique / tasty items who fly well below the radar of the mammoth supermarket firms that buy hundreds or even thousands of tons of food at a time. Many of these are frozen entrees prepared in smaller batches by these small firms.

Here is an interesting quote from Channel 4.

Then they interviewed a couple of girls with California accents who said that they live off of Trader Joe's.

Customers Wait In Long Lines For Trader Joe’s Opening « CBS Denver

Which makes me wonder. Do Colorado natives even really care about TJ's, or is it just for transplants? Just wondering.
Only transplants will stand in long lines. Locals will think its crazy, but they will eventually become regulars too once the opening rush ends. There are a couple of things I get whenever I am in a city with TJ's but they aren't so important I would stand in a long line. Have a particular like for one type of coffee they have, use one of their vitamin supplements and everyone who tries the cookies wants more.

Can you describe the coffee? Does it come in K cups? Thanks!

Here's a news article on today's openings; a good time was had by all.

FYI, TJ's 2-year plan has no stores listed for Colorado Springs.

Just a personal preference for their Costa Rican Tarrazu version. I can't explain what exactly makes it better than other Costa Rican sourced coffee, just I always have enjoyed it. Coffee at TJ's comes in a large "can" whole bean with a seal and can grind it there if you'd like. No K-Cups that I am aware of.

Since one of them is on my drive home maybe I will brave it on Monday and hope its less crazy.

They were very busy but remarkably organized when I went. It'll probably calm down shortly - the new people who wanted to go stocked up, and the curiosity seekers will be there for a week or two, and then it'll go back to being a regular grocery store. I think. I'm sure a lot of it is transplants - I definitely missed many of their foods (particularly their snacks and pre-made meals) from Illinois and Arizona.

I went on Saturday around 4:30. There was no line to get in, but it was crowded. The line to check out was about 15 - 20 minutes, but the checkers were very fast (WalMart could take lessons from them lol!). But overall, the store is very nice and bigger than the one I used to shop at in California.

My friend went to the Boulder TJ last night. She said the shelves were almost bare of some items, e.g. bread. I guess it's popular! Once the "novelty wears off" as my mom used to say, they'll probably be able to keep stocked up.
