This may sound like an odd question but where do CO residents like to go for summer vacation (beach vacations)? I grew up spending my summers at the Jersey Shore then after moving to VA we drove to NC or SC for summer vacation. In June we are moving to Castle Rock and we are trying to plan our family vacation. I know we pretty much have to fly in order to get to the beach. Just looking for some new ideas.

If I needed the beach that badly, I'd use today's $107 airfare on SWA for Denver to Burbank or LAX, then drive or take a taxi down to the beach.

Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve (U.S. National Park Service)

Plenty of sand and a nice, cold creek to wade in (April-June).

All kidding aside, you could do the west coast or catch a flight to Houston and hit the beach at Galveston.

Default I have patience

I am waiting for the ocean (and associated beaches) to come to Denver.
A billion years or so.
I have time.
Plate tectonics rules, baby.

We go to Orange County, since that's where we moved from and have friends to stay with there. The beaches are beautiful in Southern California, but the water is chilly compared to the Atlantic. If you wait until August, the water is ok to get in without a wet suit But the flight is under 2 hours (or about that) and reasonably cheap on Southwest or maybe Frontier.

Denver has to be one of the furthest inland cities from an ocean or a Great Lake. I bet the nearest beach at either the Pacific or the Gulf of Mexico, is at least a thousand miles away.

We've gone to Delaware, North and South Carolina, Georgia and various spots in Florida. We've gone to Cali, but not for a beach vacation.
