My husband and I are considering a move from Austin to Denver for job reasons. We loooooooove the winter sports and are excited about a move to another outdoorsy town, but our favorite sports are based around access to the lakes here in Austin. Can anyone tell me what the lake culture is like in Denver? We love cable-park and behind-the-boat wakeboarding and my husband is a committed surfer who has developed a great fondness for wakesurfing.

Thanks!!

What's a lake?

Seriously though, while there are a few reservoirs that allow water sports, this is not a good area if you want or expect to be able to do that on a regular basis, you'll most likely be disappointed.

Certainly not like Texas but people do wakeboard here. Lakes | Colorado Wake | Wakeboarding | Wakeboard | Colorado
My friends go to Chatfield Res. There are also some private lakes with memberships.
I recently saw something on the news about surfing the Colorado River: Surf's up! Glenwood Springs attracts world-class surfers

It's a culture of millions of people sharing a few small lakes in gale force winds.

Sigh. Hopefully, the new company will be fronting us a trip up to Denver soon to explore. We found meetup groups that do some wakeboarding, but it didn't look like there was much up there. I guess we'll have to fight the crowds on the windy ponds, but I won't expect much. Not sure how to let the husband down about this...perhaps I should just buy him a whitewater kayak.

It is the most amazing sport. Huge mental game though and a fear factor that does not exist in wake boarding (at least in the beginning levels). By far the most mentally taxing and rewarding sport I have ever done. I'm hooked.
