hi i am moving to denver in a couple of weeks....I am a single mom and need to relocate so my kids can get a good education....is denver a good place for a single mom? are there good schools there? I also do medical billing fulltime for a gastroenterologist...can I find work in this field? Any feedback would be helpful.

Hi, I have no idea about the work - but I would choose Denver over Atlanta any day! But there are good and bad places, so if you find out where the jobs are, maybe then you can figure out your options more. Denver is huge - and so many cities all around.

Denver is a great city. But...Yikes!!! You are moving in a couple of weeks as a single mom with kids and you have no job lined up?!?!? It also sounds like you don't know where the good schools are located, yet you are moving to enhance your children's education!?!? If the move is not a done deal yet, I would recommend that you take time and get some of your questions answered, as well as try to line up a job ahead of time. It's not like you have a spouse's income to hold you over while you look for a job. If the move is a done deal and you are moving out there in a couple of weeks no matter what, I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Did you search the internet for hospitals in Denver?
What is your price range?
What research have you already performed?
Why did you pick Denver?

You've done tons of research. (This presumes you have looked at crime rates, sex offenders, school data, sports leagues, kids amusement centers, city and county planning, traffic patterns, etc.)

You have already picked an apartment to move into.

So why are you now asking where the best areas for kids are?

This seems to be the week for Colorado dreamers. James, et al... nothing personal, but after reading quite a few of these posts recently, I need to get this off my chest.

[Rant on] People, please stop this nonsense of thinking that Colorado is the answer to all your problems. There are many reasons to move here, but you have got to stop the fantasizing and be realistic, especially if you have kids. It is expensive to move and painful for children to be ripped out of a familiar environment, so you'd better be sure this is where you want to live. Furthermore, Colorado has problems just like everywhere else. We have good views, but we also have economic ups-and-downs, costly housing, crime-ridden areas, water issues, and a few really bad schools. Colorado is NOT utopia, despite what you may have heard. [Rant off]

We need a little more to go on, James.

What is your budget? What size house do you desire? What kind of setting do you prefer (i.e., urban, suburban, exurban)? Since you have no idea where you'll be working, I suppose this next question is moot, but what kind of commute is reasonable to you? What amenities would you like to have? Is there anything else that might give us a clue about what you're seeking other than a kid-friendly environment?
