Come to Denver! I think you will really enjoy it. You don't have to be super outdoorsy. I don't do any winter sports, but I do like a nice hike every now and then. The LGBTQ population is a lot better for men, in my opinion, than ***** women, so you should be good there. My best friend lives in Charlotte and it is just way too southern for me. It is way cheaper though, if cost is a big deal. She has a 1 bedroom for $600 and you CANNOT find that in Denver or any other large city in Colorado.

You'll be fine here. I know lots of people whose main outdoor activity is drinking.

Coming to Denver as someone who isn't into the outdoors, you'll find a city that doesn't leave a lot to complain about and has a lot of things which makes a city good. However, Denver isn't really better just city wise than a lot of its peers like KC or Charlotte. But considering housing, you'll be paying a premium, somewhere between DC and Charlotte.

IDK what your salary is, but IMO Denver doesn't have that good of rentals under $1100-1200 (assuming you don't have a roommate). $1300 and up is where you can get a lot more. Below $1100 and you have no parking, longer commutes, tiny places.... Traffic is very annoying here. It's not DC, but you don't want to live too far from the office.
