I used to live down the street from this place and went there a lot.

IDK, seems overrated to me for a few reasons:
1. Some surly bartenders - many regulars I knew had reputations but also spent a lot of money there. I felt almost insulted by some of the staff sometimes. They were also passive aggressive - nice to your face and seemed like they would talk smack behind your back.
2. Long 86 list - we are talking 300+ people. Is it people are that just misbehaved there or does the staff not cut people off enough and do stupid things as a result?
3. Now that I’m back in L.A., I’m told by friends it’s been getting pretty lame (EG: not as many girls showing up, lots of random fighting in the past etc.)
4. They don’t serve food (only vending machines)
5. Got ZERO comped drinks ever (not expecting it at all) but my local watering hole in Los Angeles always does. Yes. Los Angeles mind you of all places.
I had some great times here, but things started to get weird with excess 86ing a year ago. Including a bartenders husband pulling a knife out on someone who put a beer bottle under his new BMW bc he was drunk (probably deserved). Either way, it went unfriendly and hostile fairly quickly which was sad.
Idk, if this was the year for the nomination, seems like Dons might be hitting a low point. Thoughts? I’d honestly give this to Fainting Goat or Vesper Lounge based on my experience.

You have to admit Dive Bars are hip again and Denver has a ton of them - many of which are better and less authoritative than Don’s
