My family and I are planning a relocation to Denver within the next 30 days and I need some honest opinions. I will be working in the Denver Tech Center. We spent a week in Denver earlier this month and drove through some neighborhoods. I loved the look, feel and proximity of the mountains in the Castle Rock area, however I have not been impressed by what I have read about the schools. I have a 15 year old football player who was slated to play varsity football for one of the top ranking academic and football schools here in Texas. It is very important to me that he move to a comparable school where he will be given a chance to play. For that reason, we were considering Grandview High School. I also have a 9 year old (4th grade) and 3 year old (pre-k) student and I am willing to consider both public or private school for them. I will most likely be renting a home for the first year until we have established roots in the city and know where we want to be long-term. Our monthly rent budget is about $3,000. Any advice that anyone can offer is MUCH appreciated. My husband and I are both native Houstonians, and this will be the first time for either of us living anywhere but Texas.

For your football son, have you looked into Valor? They are one of the top programs in the state and are in Highlands Ranch, which is also a nice place to live in the south metro area.

Which are the top high school football programs? Schools start in a few weeks.

Unless he is VERY good it's going to be costly. I think tuition at Valor is about $20,000.

OP said they wanted top ranked academics and football. It does not get any more top of the top than Valor. They have scholarships too.

I'm from Houston and back home now after living away for quite some time, including 3 years in Denver recently. Where do you live in Houston right now? What do you like/dislike about it and what aspects are you trying to find comparably in the Denver area?

And IIRC, high schools can't give out sports scholarships. Of course, they might come up with some sort of "academic" scholarship to give a good football player.

For football yes. Academics? I've heard nothing one way or the other about the academics at Valor.

In general, high school sports are not on even footing in Colorado. The private schools like Valor, Mullen, Regis, and Kent Denver that can essentially buy talent play in the same classifications as the public schools. It's wrong and it needs to stop. They need to be in their own division/classification.

As far as football goes, Grandview is decent, and a few years ago Cherokee Trail lost the state title to Valor.
