What is your long term plan? To buy and live there forever or just wanting to live in Denver for a few years and rent and enjoy the city? I see a lot of people moving to the Denver area who end up falling in love and wanting to stick around and then realize they could never afford to buy a home. The idea of renting forever sucks.

If you just want to check it out and enjoy the city, I say go for it. If you think you're gonna want to put down roots, I'd suggest crunching the numbers and looking at what stuff costs. A single person making less than six figures is going to have trouble buying a place in a semi-decent area, and prices are only going to increase.

Commute time should be a consideration.
I second this - downtown Littleton should be at the top of your list. I have kind of the opposite situation as OP, I live in Southwest and work near highlands and I do not recommend my commute to anyone. It's quite a trek in morning/afternoon traffic and can be highly unpredictable, so you either have to leave plenty of margin by leaving very early or have a boss that's cool with you arriving late here or there.

Downtown Littleton offers much of what the city-close neighborhoods offer, with a much more reasonable commute for your situation. It's also a short light-rail ride into the city.

I would look at downtown Littleton (80120). Englewood (80110 and 80113) University, Rosedale, Platt Park (80120) Belmar in Lakewood and maybe even Baker (80204).
