Just curious is it a good idea to carry Earthquake Insurance if you own a home in the Denver area, more specifically Denver west?

"Good idea" is relative. What percentage of homeowners carry it? I don't know. I moved to near Colorado Springs from SoCal and I didn't purchase earthquake insurance for Colorado - and I'm "Mr. Insurance".

Like Charles, I do not have earthquake insurance here in Colorado, but I sure as heck had it when I lived in NorCal.

If you're going to buy earthquake insurance, might as well get volcano insurance while you're at it.

I think the biggest earthquake to ever hit colorado was near Ft. Collins like 100 years ago and it wasn't anything huge either probably as big as the one that just hit illinois

Seriously, an earthquake?? I've lived in Colo. my entire life, never even thought of getting earthquake insurance. Now flood insurance, that's something to think about. I think some people are required to have it depending on where they live.

The earthquake in Illinois sparked my interest and so I went ahead and read a bit about earthquakes in Colorado. Sounds like there are not many at all, but thought I would ask anyways. Volcano insurance does sound interesting though.

Thanks everone!

Actually I've heard that Yellowstone could someday be a "super" volcano that would possibly kill people in Denver.
