Precisely. You prove my point. You can get a "luxury" apartment in a desirable area for well within OP's budget. Whether or not OP wants something like this is another matter altogether.

I don't like to hear this.. I am in the opposite position as the OP, I am also OP's age, I sure hope that I, as a straight male, don't have TOO much trouble on this front, I am planning on moving to one of these areas in April-ish.. Funny that you mention TX, I am also considering Austin, strictly for a larger and more available pool of potential available women. Looking for a partner, not just hooking up.

I have heard about the "Menver" factor lol but the times I've been there it felt pretty balanced between the genders. I don't know? I remember seeing attractive people everywhere.

Thank you for posting the links and offering a little more clarity into the rents in Denver. It does seem to offer a great range of options. Compared to NYC, $1500 is nothing.

I know what you are talking about - the Palmettos. I can just picture them jumping from the huge Mossy Oak Trees onto an adjacent roof at night then crawling down a series of cracks and vents in the housing frame to get into the living room or kitchen. Not to mention those tiny ants that crawl under the door or the en masse of strange large, black flies that come out every fall. South FL also has those iguanas that fall off trees when it gets below ~35F (which is rare). The occasional alligator comes out of the creeks, small ponds, and lakes into office parking lots or homes of the FL Panhandle. The armadillos also lurk around at night. I know FL.

The "college towns" in CO are Fort Collins and Boulder. They are similar to Gainesville and Tallahassee in having that type of atmosphere. There are noticable differences culturally though. FL tends to be more "Southern " or "Caribbean" or "South American" depending on which part of the state you live. Central FL is (weirdly) more like a Northern Liberal City compared to the FL Panhandle.

So, where should a 40+ single woman live in CO? I would recommend Lakewood, Englewood, LoDo, Centennial, Westminster, Arvada, or perhaps Colorado Springs. The men grossly outnumber the women in Metro Denver and CO Springs. The age diversity is there in some parts (not all). The things to look out for would be cost-of-living and traffic. I lived in CO in the late 90s when the Turnpike was still a reasonable commute from Westminster to Boulder. It's not like that any more. In 20+ years the traffic has come to resemble I-35 during rush hour in Austin or I-4 just outside Tampa. I-25 in Denver gets like that too. Traffic is horrible now compared to my time there.

The key then is to live close to your job or work from home. Denver also has the four seasons. It has a not-so-hot summer (usually in the 90s for a high) and mild winters with a fair amount of snow. Do you know how to drive on icy roads in the winter? Can you handle some mornings below 20F in the winter? It usually balances out from extremes though. It can snow one day with highs in the 20s then suddenly melt a few days later with temperatures in the 50s or 60s. Denver does that a lot in the winter.

Thank you very much for all the info and detail! I appreciate it. And glad you can relate to that FL life lol. I'll check out all those neighborhoods. I'm from the Northeast, so I have no problem with winter or snow. As for driving, I work remote so I'm not too concerned about driving on a daily basis. And if I'm a walkable neighborhood with all my necessities nearby, I'll be good on that end.

Although I've heard about it being called Menver lol, I'm not even thinking about dating. I just really like CO in general. Thanks again!

FYI, grad_student hasn't lived in Denver since 2001. His data is pretty old.

Denver is actually pretty close to 50/50 men/women split through various age brackets. How you come across is a much greater factor in how good or bad the the dating pool works for you than sheer numbers may suggest. Denver women aren't going to ask you up to their apartment simply because you show up and buy them dinner. You better have something else going for you and the more outdoor oriented, the better.

I find this ratio talk to be very humorous.
My college was 95% male.
The nearest other other college as 100% female, but we outnumbered them 5:1.
The typical ratio at a mixer was 10:1.
I still managed to acquire a wife while still in college.

I think it was 85% when I was there. Did your wife go to Russell Sage?
