Houses in the western part of CCSD are older and have larger lots. Newer housing subdivisions tend to be built compactly.

The area that feeds into Cherry Creek High School (western CCSD) has several areas for walking - Cherry Creek Reservoir, Willow Creek Open Space and the Highline Canal. Hiking in the mountains is much closer to the western half of the district than the eastern half of the district.

Special needs programs vary from school to school, and I am not in a position to compare programs. I do know that Mortensen Elemetary School in South Jeffco had a very good program for autistic students, but I cannot speak to the quality of programs once they leave and go to middle school (Falcon Bluffs) or high school (Chatfield). This area is right next to the mountains though and the outdoor rec opportunities are much better here.

The OP made it clear she/he doesn't want private. So neither of these will work.

There is a bluegrass festival in Telluride every summer, might be others around the state. I used to listen to it WAMU back in the DC area. One year we went to see Doc Watson at the Chautaqua in Boulder.
